Student
Feedback

>Students have expressed a strong desire for more after-school activities that reflect their interests and allow for creative and academic growth. They want increased student voice and choice, ensuring their ideas and preferences are considered in planning school programs and events.

>Additionally, there is a clear need for support in remediation and mentoring, including opportunities for peer mentoring and academic assistance to help all students succeed.

>Students and families also want more engaging family involvement events that actively include both parents and students in fun, meaningful, and educational ways, helping to strengthen the school community.

Family
Feedback

>Families have expressed the importance of having more designated bilingual staff in the school to ensure effective communication with families, especially during conferences, meetings, and important school updates.

>There is a strong interest in expanding before and after school programs focused on wellness, STEM, reading, and math to support students’ academic success, social development, and physical and mental well-being.

>Families want the school to continue prioritizing mental, emotional, and physical health during the school day through supportive services and programs.

>Finally, families are seeking more family engagement events that create meaningful opportunities for parents and students to connect with the school community and with each other.

Feedback

>Staff shared that the school is highly responsive to student well-being and does a strong job of engaging and representing the diverse cultures within the community.

>They emphasized the importance of continuing outreach efforts to build and maintain positive relationships with families and community members, while also connecting them with valuable resources and local assets.

> Staff expressed a desire for more partnerships with community agencies that can support students and families with language acquisition services. They hope to see a more concerted and active collaboration between families and the school when engagement opportunities are offered, to strengthen student success and school-community relationships

Community
Feedback

>Community partners emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between schools and local agencies to align efforts and support shared goals. A major theme was the need for training to help students and families feel cared for and respected. Suggested training topics include: Trauma-informed instruction and Cultural proficiency and effective communication with students and families

> Community Partners also recommended the hiring of service navigators by the school system to help bridge the gap between families, schools, and available community resources. They noted that while Frederick has many resources, families and school staff often lack awareness or accurate information about them. A proposed solution is the creation of an easily accessible list of community agencies and services to support students and families more effectively.

Priorities and Opportunities

Rigorous, Community-Connected Classroom Instruction and Expanded, Enriched Learning Opportunities

>Ensure that all classroom instruction is academically rigorous and deeply connected to the local community to enhance relevance and student engagement.

>Develop and implement curricula that incorporate local history, culture, and community issues family engagement events and activities

>Establish partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and leaders to create guest speaker sessions, field trips, and real-world projects.

> Incorporate student interests and feedback in lesson planning to foster ownership and relevance.

Collaborative Leadership, Shared Power, and Voice

> Establish committees and or  advisory groups representing all stakeholder groups (teachers, students, families, community partners) to participate in our school policies, curriculums, and school improvement decisions.

> Implement regular, clear, and two-way communication channels (newsletters, forums, surveys, social media) to share information and gather input from the entire school community.

> Create opportunities e.g.,  student councils, family advisory boards, and staff-led initiatives that allow meaningful influence on school culture and practices.

Integrated Systems of Support

>Implement a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) that integrates academic interventions, behavioral supports, and mental health services in a seamless way.

> Use data from multiple sources (attendance, behavior, academic performance, wellness surveys) to identify needs early and tailor supports appropriately.

>Provide  easy and equitable access to health services, counseling, and academic resources for students and their families.

Culture of Belonging, Safety, and Care

>Create student and parental  advisory councils that address concerns, needs, while providing input into decision making processes at the school

> Strengthen trauma-informed practices via training all staff in trauma-informed care and   Integration of   de-escalation and SEL strategies and techniques.

Powerful Student and Family Engagement

>Provide expanded multilingual access via hiring bilingual family engagement staff

> Provide real-time family feedback, sharing ,  “You Said, We Did” updates

> Provide family learning workshops, with an emphasis on hosting grade-specific “how to support learning at home” sessions

> Shifting to student-led conferences to build student voice and ownership

> Share tools and information early (e.g., Back-to-School Night) to support sustained engagement.

> Increase student opportunities for community involvement, service learning, and enrichment events like STEM nights.
